Get to Know Leo Muratovs, our Transport & Planning Administrator

It’s time to sit down with Leo Muratovs, our Transport & Planning Administrator to hear more about his day-to-day life at TEPS and how he has been getting on as winner of Top 30 Under 30.

Hello Leo, first things first, could you let me know how long you’ve been at TEPS for?

I’ve been with TEPS for over a year now, wow, that’s gone fast.

So, as Transport & Planning Administrator, can you tell me what your main duties are?

So, I mostly deal with the documents for truck drivers and administrative tasks so my team can get on with managing the transport. One part of my role is to plan where the trucks will park, it may sound simple, but this must change throughout the day due to cancellations and delays. The last thing we want is a truck blocked in and having issues to set off causing a delay. I will also help my team if they need it whilst they are on the phone.

How did you first get into the haulage & warehousing industry?

Well, I studied supply chain management at the University of Hull and from then I worked a few places before I found my place at TEPS. I grew up thinking I would be a Seaman Navigator, but I only got one year into it and my family decided to move to the United Kingdom.

My family background was involved in haulage, and I knew about TEPS from the different roles I had after university so when I saw the job application, I was so happy as I knew employment was low at the time.

What are the biggest challenges you face in your role?

One of the biggest challenges is keeping track of what’s going on every day, it’s second nature to my team but when I first started it was overwhelming and I’m still learning the best ways to organise.

After being at TEPS for a year now, I have learnt how to react to any situation whether that’s answering a customer query or dealing with a driver. Communication is key and attention to detail is needed in this business. Everyone at TEPS is a team player which makes it work, if you think you can do it on your own, you’re wrong.

So, a little about yourself, what do you get up to outside of work?

Some random things are, I like going to the gym or cooking and I’ll usually be listening to metal rock music. A fun fact about me is that I sound American but I’m from Latvia which in turn means I can speak 2 and a bit language, Russian, English and a little bit of Latvian.

Now something we want to know more about. As a winner of the 2024 Top 30 Under 30, how is the programme helping you in your current role?

I can see a lot of personal benefits, I am more aware of myself and have learnt to be more open, and open to communication and I can see my sense of humour more.

Winning this award was very encouraging as I had barely been at TEPS for a year, so it was a shock to find out I’d won.

I learnt that TEPS and the John Good Group do care about you no matter the time you’ve spent in the role.
