Get to Know Ken Jackson, Our Assistant Warehouse Manager

We have sat down with Ken Jackson, our Assistant Warehouse Manager, to discuss his day-to-day schedule, the challenges he faces, and how it feels to have been working at TEPS for a decade.

Let’s start with what everyone wants to know, how does it feel to have been at TEPS for a decade this year?

Well, I’ve officially been at TEPS for a decade this year, but I’ve been in the warehousing and logistics industry for over 30 years.

When I first started, the industry was very much about who you know, and that’s how I got my job at TEPS 10 years ago.

So, as Assistant Warehouse Manager, what are your main duties?

As the Assistant Warehouse Manager, I focus mainly on one of our international clients and will manage their fleet worldwide, from Slovakia to Italy.

It’s a lot of juggling and making sure the fleet is on track to meet customer demands. I can receive an email in the morning that can potentially change the full schedule of the day, so I must be on it all the time.

What would you say is your favourite part overall?

I’d say my favourite part overall is the problem-solving. It’s the chase of having to find a solution quickly so we can meet customer requests on time. With my focus being on an international client, it’s important that I consider time differences which can impact the communication. It’s very much thinking outside of the box, and I love that.

What would you say a typical morning in the office looks like?

Well, I get into the office around 7 a.m., which means I can have an hour or so to concentrate fully, as the office is usually quiet around that time. The morning is when the dispatching of goods happens with the fleet, so I need to be on it and available to sort out any changes. It ultimately means I’m not chasing my tail.

I can have a plan for the week ahead, and an email comes through, and it will change the whole thing, so I’m always on it.

I know there’ll be some challenges in your role, can you name some?

Yeah, there can be challenges that arise throughout the week, from organising deliveries to collections and just making sure I’m fully organised with what is happening.

Lastly, tell us a bit about yourself, what do you get up to outside of work?

I regularly go to the gym weekly and attend the Boxing Club. Oh, and of course, I love a holiday; like many at TEPS, we all love travelling to Tenerife.
